ABP: What ws the reaction when you were announced as the 2010 Ms. American Beauties Plus?

Letonya: Words cannot express the sheer joy, shock and amazement that I felt when I was announced as the National 2010 Ms. American Beauties Plus. I was shocked, I screamed, I stomped, I ran, I hugged, I cried, and then I smiled and was crowned. I had such an intense and overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. God truly blessed me that day. I felt that my many years of hard work had paid off.

Memoirs of a SSBBW Beauty Queen!

Because I am Super Size Big and Beautiful Woman (SSBBW), it was hard for me to compete in the world plus pageantry and be taken seriously. Many times I had competed. I felt that because of my size, I had to go over and beyond…….being extra prepared in order to have a real chance. It was not until I competed at the 2010 American Beauties Plus pageant that I felt that I honestly and truly had a chance to win a plus pageant. I was judged based on not only my beauty on the outside, but the character of the woman that I am on the inside. My size did not matter. As a matter of fact I was the largest contestant there and I won. At American Beauties Plus ALL PLUS SIZE WOMEN have a true chance to shine and have a true chance to win a national title.

We BBW’s and SSBBW’s have a hard enough time in the world dealing with close minded people who feel that we should be ashamed of who we are. When dealing with the world of plus pageantry it is sad that we have to face the same criticism. We pay our money, we train, we prepare, we compete………..and yet we are still looked over because our dress size is over a 24. Here at American Beauties Plus I can truly say that my size did not matter. I am here to tell you that my dress size is 36, I am a Big and Beautiful SSBBW woman and I am your National 2010 Ms. American Beauties Plus.
