Cathe Mack-McGarry

2009 American Beauties Plus Elite

Cathe Mack-McGarry is an involved community activist who combines her professional expertise and people-first personality into making her Dayton, Ohio community a better place to live.

Cathe is a twenty-four year employee of ResCare, Inc. a community based provider of services to people with mental retardation/developmental disabilities. In her current position, she manages three business lines; group home services, independent living settings, and elderly in-home care services leading a team of over 108 people who provide supports to over 125 consumers.

When not working, Cathe is volunteering in schools, raising dollars for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Heifer International and other local community charities. Cathe’s commitment to being involved in events for her community extends from setting up the first planning meeting to turning off the lights when the event is over.

In her spare time, Cathe is an on-air personality for Clear Channel Dayton’s WLQT-FM 99.9 Lite rock favorites radio station. For relaxation, Cathe cooks, travels and hangs out with her husband of twenty-four years and their three dogs.

Cathe’s high energy lifestyle is often attributed to her childhood. Born with a congenital birth defect, that went undiagnosed for her first four years of life, Cathe spent the next few childhood years in and out of hospitals, having surgeries, in a body cast and in rehabilitation while others her age were free to run and play.

As a result of those struggles, Cathe has developed a drive and tenacity that has instilled in her a need to succeed, with failure never being an option. In her life Cathe strives to exemplify the motto of her Alma Mater, The McGregor School of Antioch University, which is “to be afraid to die before you’ve made a difference for humanity.”
